Winston Groovy: Please Don't Make Me Cry: The Best Of (TJACD196)
Released on 16 August 2004 and will be best known for the majestic title track which I am sure everyone will know. The material from the 70’s and 80’s is hardly innovative but Winston’s sweet vocals make this entirely listenable. The standout tracks are the earlier ones, pre 1974, like I can’t go on, Once a Man, What you gonna do and particularly I want to be loved but none surpass ‘Cry’. The covers like Groovin and Sylvia’s mother are OK, nothing more.
Beyond the hit it’s all a little too lightweight which is a shame because the voice is there.
Format: CD album Released: Jul 19 2004 Availability: Not in stock: order for despatch in 3 to 14 days Price: £8.99
Featuring all of Winston Groovy's best-loved recordings from the seventies and eighties, 'Please Don't Make Me Cry' is quite simply the greatest collection of his work ever. With many of these tracks unavailable since the date of their original issue, this long-overdue colection will undoubtedly delight Mr Groovy's many fans in the UK and abroad.
