Trojan Sixties Box Set -  TJETD174

I’m sorry but there’s very little on here, especially volumes 1 and 3 that appeal to me. Ok they served a purpose but as the songs were by and large pap in the first place a reggae version is hardly or rarely going to make it better. It’s all very lightweight.

Those that come close are few and far between but David Isaacs vocal on Leaving on a jet plane is Ok.  One that is good is the Gaylettes Son of a Preacher Man but then again it’s a good song anyway.  Pat Kelly can sing anything and it will sound good so Then you  can tell me goodbye is OK.

So the saving grace is CD2 – Motor City Influences  - and some of these do sound good.  Why should this be? Probably because I know and like the songs in any event.

The best are The Techniques, Wish it would rain, Keith & Tex Don’t look behind, Sensations Born to love you with excellent falsetto, Delano Stewart Wherever I lay my hat, the wonderful Gaylettes again,

The Soul Leaders do Shop around which, against the CD’s principles, must have been some time after the original release, but it’s a good, less frantic version.

Even some of these don’t work Slim Smith for example, even Delroy Wilson whose voice you would have thought would be suited to a soul song.

To ensure this collection is in all respects the ultimate Sixties Reggae collection, both the songs and the Jamaican renderings date from that golden era. Discs 1 and 3 feature interpretations of Pop classics first made famous by such celebrated performers as Bob Dylan, Sonny & Cher and Dusty Springfield, while the second disc brings together 27 Motown inspired covers, and with the music performed by some of Jamaica's most talented performers, this set is a must for both Pop and Reggae connoisseurs alike.
