Regina Belle - This is - Peak Records
Regina Belle - More information - Regina Belle
Regina's first album for the Independent Peak label kicks of with Oooh Boy, a well performed sensual ballad. There are a couple of exceptional duets - one with Glen Jones 'From Now on' and the wonderful Will Downing 'Someone who needs me' - well it's not really a duet but Will is there on background and adlibs.
'La Da Di' kicks in inna R'n'B style with my fave lady MC - MC Lyte
I love the modern soul 'stepper' 'Don't wanna go home'. 'Johnny's Back' is an interesting track - presumably a personal thing - and recorded outside of the main 'Peak' stable. Also deep personal lyrics on 'I gotta go back'. Closing with 'What if' - a hurtful gospel plea
All in all a very good album offering a touch of Soul, R'n'B, Gospel, ballads, duets, and groovers, most of it written or co written by Regina herself. She therefore sounds real comfortable with the material. Excellent stuff.
