Alright
Mike,
heres some Superloop vital statistics....
anything else
you need to know - give us a shout.
Superloop is a reaction to
the commercial formula
found in the clinical pop music of the
moment, our
attempt to return to the mesmerising naive quality
of
the 60s and 70s. An unapologetic doff of the cap to the
artist
of that time that turned us on.
Superloop are influenced by
the disco/soul scene of
the 70s through to the early acid house
days, with
psychedelic production ideas coming from the
beatles
era. And everything else!
Matt and Keith went to
school together and years after
both ended up living in Leeds.
They came together
whilst Keith was DJing and Matt was providing
the
Visuals at Leeds longest running 70s funk and soul
night
The Mile High Club.
Matt was putting on nights outdoors and
in unusual one
off locations like churches around Leeds with
various
party outfits in the area. Keith was DJing at least
3
times a week playing funk, soul, disco and hip hop,
as well
as makin 12s for the techno scene!
,,,A bit about the Dope Smugglaz - Dope
Smugglaz
happened when Keith and fellow Mile High DJ: Tim
Sheridan
decided to make some pop tunes, top 15 in the
charts, top of the
pops, tours, lotsa press followed
for a couple of years. After the
commercial success of
the Dope Smugglaz Keith was looking to make
different
music.
Matt had been knocking together tunes
under the name
of b.u.g and the 2 of them got together at
Keiths
studio to see what would happen.
They blinked back into the brightness of
the outside
world ten months later with a collection of
tracks
that included influences and ideas from artists they
had
collectively enjoyed from the last 30 years.
Matt heard Sarah singing to a mesmerised
crowd of
sunday dinnertime casualties in a bar in Leeds,
got
talking to her about Superloop and took her number
with a
view to her recording vocals for Superloop.
Paul Diamond was someone who had been
familiar to both
Keith and Matt from the open mike sessions in
Leeds
and came over for some studio time.
The quality of Sarahs voice, on more
than one
occasion, much to her denial, has been compared from
a
young Michael Jackson to Morcheeeba. This sound was to
become
an integral ingredient to the recipe Superloop
were after.
Baby
be mine, the most soulful offering from the
selection was an
immediate candidate for release as a
single. Tonys production gave
it a warm timeless feel
and as soon as it got out there (on a
promo pressing
of 300) we got immediate confirmation from the
modern
soul scene. Yes the tune got hammered up and down
the
country, also specialist shops sold out of their
allocated
stock. This reaction promted us to do more
soul trax (hurray),
which we're working on at the mo.
Superloop are Keith and Matt
as a songwriting
production team and Tony wright who doubles
as
engineer and multimusician playing bass, strings,
percussion.
Sarah, vocalist, lyrisist and bundle of
fun!
Paul diamond, the bush doctor.
We're putting together
a band to play out live also.
