Sugar Minott: Good Thing Going - (The Best Of) (TJACD210)
Mostly cut around 1979 but a few tracks slightly before and slighty after. Album built around his big hit Good thing going but more importantly around Sugars self productions.
The title track was good but now sligtly overplayed, but at this time Sugar was hot, both in the Lovers and probably especially in the Lovers but also in the Roots. Som eof the lazy Lovers riddims are sublime, particularly The people got to know, and never too young.
This was my area so I well remember tracks like Ghetto ology kicking up on Rodigan or Tony Williams, they were hard yet soft in a sense. Never gonna give Jah up is a tune too.
Th efew tracks into the mid 80’s are more electrical and lose feeling for me, so stick with 1979 and you won’t go far wrong. Nice album, Sugar certainly had his day and good luck to him.
Format: CD album Released: Sep 20 2004 Availability: Not in stock: order for despatch in 3 to 14 days Price: £8.99
Good Thing Going features the best of Sugar Minott's early self-productions as well as a series of classic hits for the likes of Prince Jammy, Niney and Bunny Lee. Aside from the well-known title track are a variety of Roots and Lover's anthems from the late seventies to the mid-eighties. The high standard of the material and versatility of styles featured on this ultimate 'best of' aptly illustrates why Sugar Minott has managed to remain at the top of his profession for so long.
