Phyllis Dillon: Love Is All I Know (TJACD208)

Some great songs ranging from 1966 to 1971.  the first half of this compilation from the late 60’s  with some excellent originals like Don’t stay awat to some soulful covers.  The version of my all time favourite Bettye Swann soul track make me yours is more than creditable, with only a slight Jamaican feel to it.  Probably best known for the rockstaeady classic, her version of a 40’s tune Perfidia.

Great ballad with, if she is the Queen then surely he’s the king, Alton Ellis on Why did you leave me. He also features on a version of Ketty lesters Love Letters an dlater on Remember that Sunday which is one of the tracks of the album.

As we approach 1970 the Reggae beat emerges hardens and becomes more prominent, though the songs aren’t particularly hot, except maybe Right Track with Hopeton Lewis.

The album closes with 8 tracks from 1971 which are all very commendable including versions of the great Teddy Randazzo’s Living a lie,  women in the ghetto , I can’t forget about you baby and Eddie Oh Baby
