New Soul Heaven – EXCDP37

Expansion over the years have come up with some excellent compilation Modern Soul CD’s, there have been many others recently like the Café de Soul, Organic Soul (from Sister label Soul brother), Soul Lounge, Neo Soul United, Soul Sophisticated, so hopefully we are now getting somewhere to expose some of these artists, and maybe, just maybe there’s a marketplace for this to as Soul becomes popular again as against some uninspirational R’n’B. So this Cd isn’t really a departure because Ralph and expansion have always been there.

Packaged to include top cuts from other Expansion albums over the last year or two, all quality Soul tracks, from the likes of Imprompt2,  Frank McComb, Khani Cole, Sandra St Victor, TC Carson.

Also included from the current batch is Carmen Rodgers Free, a killer from Alyson Williams and the forthcoming Byron Woods with a Leroy Hutson tribute and a new fabulous cut by Kloud 9 with Karen Bernod.

More interesting is the fresh talent.  Starting with Ashley Ta’Mar – You remind me, who has just made her debut as vocalist with Chris Standring on a track especially produced by Steve Harvey for this album.  A glorious upbeat cut which o first listen I didn’t care for but second time, with the volume raised, it blew me away.

Hofstone – Not everyday love falls on you, out of Sweden www.hofstone.com and in the mould of Rahsaan Patterson or Eric benet

Mysti Day – You gotta go, another from Texas, where some fine talent is coming from these days, who has played with Eric Benet and Glenn Jones and is currently working on her debut album.  This is sweet yet strong and if his is a taster of what’s to come then it will be worth waiting for.

Gwendolyn Joy – What I see in you, is from a forthcoming album on Expansion I believe, is fresh and jazzy.  Emerald Jade – You bring Joy To My Life, taken from her debut album available at www.emeraldjade.com

Otis & Shugga – Journey is an older cut, 1996, from an unissued set produced by Raphael saadiq to be released by Expansion in due course.

A quality album.
