Loch Ness Monster featuring Top Reggae Artists

Released on 8 December 2003. -

Wow taking me back to late 70 early 71 when as a 14 year old youth going to the local burgeoning reggae sessions. We had a local lad who got hold of all this stuff and this album has a pure skinhead vibe. That fast beat organ led frantic wildstyle footstomping music. Great music not necessarily but of a time for sure, a time before the ugly Britishness took over. This album hit big time and maybe assisted by the fact that it was recorded largely in the UK by UK based Jamaicans.

Mostly that organ drive and of course the slackness or rudeness of the likes of the wonderfully seductive (to a 14 year old anyway) Nora Dean. Martin Riley and Fay Bennett. That said there are diversions of pace to include the mellow Night Food Reggae but essentially it was a UK pastiche of Jamaican music doctored for a UK audience. It picks out and emphasizes things like the DJ styles, the movies of the day, James Bond , Spaghetti, Vampire and Kung Fu, Jamaican Society both Rude Boy Style (Cutting Blade) and Rasta (African Meeting).

The original album is included with extra bonus tracks on a Theme and from a sister album and probably the standout track Queen of the World.

Relive that youthful exuberance!

Initially released in Trojan in 1970, Loch Ness Monster features a dozen sides linked by both their 'horror'theme and up beat tempo. Aimed squarely at the burgeoning Skinhead market, the LP, with its garishly painted cover, quickly became a sought after item amoung all self-respecting cropped-haired lads and lasses and sold by the bucket load. Today, finding an original pressing that hasn't been played to death is becoming increasingly rare - not to mention, painful to the pocket. / A seminal piece of Skinhead history is finally revived with this release - issued both in its original vinyl format and CD, the latter featuring 13 bonus tracks, all of which capture the mood and feel of the original dirty dozen titles. The booklet is jam-packed with fascinating memorbilia from the period and with a fascinating essay from respected Reggae music writer, Michel De Koningh, this is a selection that's bound to appeal to Skinheads of all ages.
