Steve Wilson - Generations - Stretch

This album, Steve's first for Stretch, was overseen by Chick Corea and Ron Moss of Stretch records. Steve was a member in Chick Corea's band and thus this whole thing came together. The core band here is Steve on saxes and flute, Mulgrow Miller on Piano, Ray Drummond on Bass and Ben Riley on Drums.

Mulgrow is strong on piano on his own composition 'Small Portion'. The tempo increases for Steve's 'Joyful Noise' a near 10 minutes of uplifting sax, with piano again prominent. 'Chrysalis' is mellow and mournful and 'Sweet and Lovely' brings a smile back. We have a mixture of slow cuts and uptempo happy ones such as ' Trapaceria'.

This album built around Steve Wilson is strong and all members contribute and gel together well and I would imagine that they perform well both in the studio and out. If jazz is your bag then you will enjoy this.
