So, who are you? Where are you from?  What is your background?

Well Mike, I am a Singer/Songwriter/Producer with three indie-soul albums.  My style of music is an eclectic blend of R&B, Funk, Rock and Jazz.  I have been obsessed with Music as early as I can remember.  From the early years of singing with my church choir, piano & voice lessons to self-producing my own albums without major label backing.  I graduated from Howard University and I believe it was there that I developed the tools to be an independent musician.  Oh yeah, I am a native New Yorker.

Tell us about your current project? How’s it going? What’s the reaction? Who helped? How are you promoting it?

“Soul Stories” is my third album and the most fun to produce so far.  I established my sound on “Six Dimensions” and “Eclectic Soul” with the help of veteran producer, Michael Phillip Costanzo but I left my comfort zone and collaborated with David Kirby, a brilliant new Electronica/Experimental/Dance producer.  The reaction continues to blow my mind.  I have received really great reviews in the indie press and continue to sell CD’s and make fans all over the world.  The Internet is the single most effective promotional tool that I have used to get my music out in the universe.  Basically, I just put my music all over the web and hoped for the best.  It’s working because people surf onto my sites all the time and share their appreciation for my music.  I also match that online energy with a ton of offline grass roots promotion.

Let’s talk about the UK scene and the New York scene and how you fit in?

I am learning everything that I can about the UK scene.  I went to Reed-Midem (the international music conference) in Cannes, France a couple of years ago and I met some incredible people in the UK music industry.  However, I am excited to come back and perform and just meet people all over the world.  My co-producer on my new album recently did some DJ gigs in London and got some really great reviews when he previewed some of our new tracks.  The New York scene has been very good to me.  It’s so diverse and that’s the best thing for an artist that is not easily placed in a category.  I fall somewhere in the middle between the neo-soul/R&B scene and the indie pop/rock scene.

When you’re not making music…What are you doing?

I am the king of leisure/holiday Mike.  I love to travel as often as I can.  When I travel I get to bask in the things I love most like swimming, dining at different restaurants and of course meeting new people.  Unfortunately or fortunately, in the indie-music business you find yourself constantly having to take working vacations because you are always canvassing for that next opportunity.  I also like to escape to my family’s compound in Charleston, South Carolina.  It’s the perfect balance to the energy and excitement of New York.

So what does the future hold for Dexter Myers?

This summer I am extremely excited to release my fourth album “RocketLove34” co-produced by DJ Scientific an up and coming superstar DJ.  I also plan to kick off my Global Indie-Soul tour, which is a series of live performances and appearances all over the world to promote my entire catalog.  Basically, I plan to put my dreams into action despite any obstacles and also grow as an artist and keep developing fans/friends all over the world.
