Delroy Wilson: Better Must Come: The Anthology (TJDDD217)
50 tracks from 1968 to 1978, and almost 10 years since his passing and simply one of the best.
I can only repeat what it says on the sleeve – Delroy Wilson’s Forte was that he could translate any song into Reggae and then make it his own.
…………and that’s any song, so there is barely a dud track on here. Particular favourites of mine are I want to love you, the pleading Give Love a try, the Sonia Pottinger produced and super soulful You’re Number one, Reggae wise Leslie Kong Show me the way, the masterful looking forward anthem Better Must Come, cover wise Bunny Lee meets HDH on a melow Same old song, Joe Gibbs Pretty Girl, can I change my mind, the Chillites Living in the Footsteps of another man, Niney’s (he was used by them all!) Rascal Man, Love ballad Worth your wait in gold, Gussie’s is it because I’m Black…………great stuff and then some.
Format: Double CD album Released: Oct 25 2004 Price: £13.99
Over the years, a number of releases have attempted to do justice to the careers of a man generally considered one of the true giants of Jamaican music, but with the exception of Trojan's 1998 collection, Once Upon A Time, all have fallen sadly short. This 2-CD anthology of his post StudioOne material finally succeeds where so many have failed, bringing together 50 of his best-known recordings from a variety of producers, including Bunny Lee, Keith Hudson, Leslie Kong and Gussie Clarke. The result is a collection that can without doubt be called the most comprehensive Delroy Wilson 'Best Of' collection ever issued!
