Collage - Groovin'

A terrific album from a lessor known Solar act. Collage were a 10 piece collective from LA who recorded three albums with Solar, the first two being produced by the Whispers. Material from all three albums are showcased here

There are a couple of tracks here that do not sound out of place in todays scene. 'Get in touch with me' is fabulous, as is 'Winners and Losers', both wonderful two step anthems. Well worth getting for these two tracks alone and I cannot recommend then highly enough.

'Romeo where's Juliet' is the bands only (disco) international hit. 'Kickin it' is in a similar vein only faster and probably better.

'Groovin' is a song that I don't particular like but I do find that this version hit's home, and really does feel right, with nice harmonies, evoking that proverbial sunny afternoon.

'Shine the light' from the third album is very 'Earth Wind and Fire. 'Simple' is a fine version of the Johnny Mathis song. 'When you smile' is another fine song, again in an EWF ballad harmony mould. 'Here and now' is a good slowie.

'In the mix' is another dancefloor burner from an album that features Kenny G, Average White Band, Whispers and Dynasty. Some line up. 'Step right up' is a bass heavy ballad.

'Money in the pocket' is kind of p-funk influenced but fall short in the outrageousness stakes! 'Move in time' - a funky number that falls short on quality. 'Young girls' is very reminiscent of Midnight Star, and closing with a very nice Quiet Storm 'Love is for everyone'

This is a great album that stands the test of time, more so than a lot of this generation. It also stands up against some of the heavyweight material of the day and is particularly worth having for two massive two step anthems.
