It was a formula that couldn’t miss, and for the best part of five years, it never did. Take the pure pop sound of bubblegum, add the dance grooves of America’s finest soul factories, and the result could be heard everywhere from school discos to the factory floor in the early 70s. From 'Melting Pot’ to 'Swing Your Daddy’, this is one form of bubblegum that will never lose its flavour.

This is a kinda odd compilation. I don't really know what the term Bubblegum soul means, other than the fact that the sleeve notes try to define it. Basically it is 70's UK Chart Soul. So it is very pop-py.

This album is probably not for the purist but it is good fun, all the singalong tunes evoking memories of Top of the Pops like Linda Carr and the Love Squad – did I say memories!

Pure singalong, karaoke time maybe – give me just a little more time, where did our love go, Build me up buttercup and so on. And there is some fine soul too New York City for example, Jim Gilstrap too.

Largely Uk chart driven and therefore quite a few UK ' Soul ' outfits some of which were quite good like Sweet Sensation, or UK cut material from the likes of Geno Washington, Jimmy james and Jimmy Helms. Touching also on the poor end of popular Northern soul with the grating javells, although it had all the right ingredients at the time.

Fine track by PP Arnold but a wasted Clyde Mcphatter and I never did get to like Blue Mink, even with it's admirable sentiments.

Bit of a mixed bag but take it lightly and have fun singing along.
