Hugely
enjoyable album and consistently on play.
For me it is easier to listen to than previous Incognito and less
complex, and is all the better for it.
Features prominently Maysa Leak with the opening track Don’t turn your
love away setting the vibe for the whole album. Everything your heart desires is jazzier and all the
ingredients are perfectly blended from Maysa’s lead through harmonies, horn
section and percussion.
Close my
eyes, featuring Tony Momrelle is my favourite track, older feel to it but real
nice. And 25th Chapster
is as good a piece of instrumental jazz funk as you’ll ever get to hear, until
that is when George Duke stops by to lay down Mindin my business.
Maysa is in
fine form throughout and particularly on True to myself and Fences and Barriers,
two ballads. Complete change on
This thing called love, stripped right down to Tony Momrelle, in Stevie style,
and piano.
The tempo
picks up to dancefloor place on a somewhat contrived but nonetheless funky Listen
to the Music. Closing with two
Incognito heritage cuts, the world is mine and Beyond the Clouds.
Strangley
on hearing some of the uptempo cuts ‘out’ they didn’t sound so good, it’s
usually the other way around.
Still I’ll happily stay confined to the living room for this.
