DOME STARS LIGHT UP BLACKPOOL
Dome artists DENNIS TAYLOR, DONNA GARDIER and ANGELA JOHNSON triumphed at the first ever Jazz FM Soul Weekend on January 3-5 at Blackpool Hilton
More than 1,250 people were partying and enjoying the creature comforts of a hotel-based weekender - and saw Dennis and his band headline the event on the Saturday night with a 90-minute set drawn from his two Dome albums. Donna kicked off proceedings on Friday night with a PA that included her new radio hit How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You).
Closing the event on Sunday afternoon was New Yorker Angela Johnson, who drew ecstatic crowd reaction for an emotionally charged solo acoustic set, accompanying herself on the piano. Stand-outs were her performances of Sad Days and Crying Over U, which had women and grown men wiping away tears. Plans are in hand for a return to the UK by Angela with her band later in 2003.
Other artists appearing were Tashan, Vivian McKone and Howard Johnson, while the DJ line-up included Richard Searling, Terry Jones, Bob Jeffries, Andy Davies and Mike Stephens.
