Barry White and Love Unlimited - WNRD 2019
This was recorded in 1975, probably during the peak of his superstardom. Barry looks good, the Love Unlimited Orchestra are in full flow, and the performance is as slick as you'll get. Yes he plays the audience and the women but you'd expect that. Behind that there is a massive talent in musicianship and production, but also in vocal performance.
Take a listen for example to I've found someone, stripped of playing to or with the audience, just a pure soulful performance.
Three tracks also by Love Unlimited, illustrating that the whole Barry White thing was a show, a performance. It also shows some of the older roots of Barry White, n It may be winter outside which he originally cut in the early sixties with Felice Taylor. A great version of I belong to you.
Barry returns to close with two of his biggest hits, I'm gonna love you and you're the first. It's a shame in some ways that the concert only lasts 44 minutes, taking out Love Unlimited and the Orchestra tracks Barry is only featured on 5 tracks. Nonetheless a poignant and moving concert all the more so given his passing.
Includes a couple of interviews but they are
dubbed into German.
