Autofocus - OST

Released on 12 May 2003

Paul Schrader's latest film 'Auto Focus' will receive it's Uk release in April 2003 via Sony Picture Classics. Paul the acclaimed director of Affliction, The Comfort of Strangers, American Gigolo, Blue Collar and Cat People. Auto Focus is an absorbing glimpse into the colorful and mysterious death of actor Bob Crane, the star of America's hit TV Comedy Hogans Heroes (1965- 1971).

This soundtrack album on the face of it appears to be an oddball selection, not all relevant to these pages and I guess all will become clear once we get to see the film and all the contexts fall into place.

That said a few glorious inclusions and none more so than Barbara Mason on her breathy pouting and soulful 'Yes I'm Ready'. 'Helpless' a Motown biggie but not so usually associated with the Four Tops so that is a welcome change. The Four Topss in all there usual upbeat majesty.

Dancefloor beach style with the Okaysions, pretty much a standard but not often played or heard these days. Shame we get a weak version of a great Dave Bartholomew pumping barrelhouse boogie style R'n'B on Real Gone Lover. Same style but much bettere is It ain't the meat. This album sure comes all mixed up so better get to see the film.

Into the 70's we get a couple of storming Funk Classics BT Express and Brass Construction
