EVENTS
Heavenly Blocked - Grand Atlantic, Weston Super Mare - 7 December 2002
I've been to a few of these now, most of which I've enjoyed to some extent but some more than others. This one I enjoyed as much as any. The event now has a certain momentum and it seems that certain people firmly fit it into their calendars. There's a friendly vibe and a good opportunity to catch up with most of the 'Soulies' around the South West.
As a result spent most of the night talking and catching up with people like Pete who organises the Bridgwater night, Paul & Niki who do Exeter Soul Shoes, the Watchet Crew, Des Parker from Gloucester, the Weston lot, Mark and John who set up this night....and so on.
Musically this time it seemed to hit the spot, mostly Northern, mostly tried and tested northern, maybe a bit predictable, but as I said it hit the spot.
And I must say it is a great venue. Look out for the events coming up over the next year, dates will be posted ion the Calendar and it looks like we have some good things to look forward to like Soul Sam, Rob Messer, and at the next one the aforementioned Des Parker.
Heavenly Blocked - Grand Atlantic, Weston Super Mare - 2 March 2002
Just a brief review of this. This is basically a 'mod' do and although it's on my own doorstep not actually ever been before, except sometimes I've been down to the afternoon sessions. Had a word with one of the organisers, Mark Thomas and there are some exciting things planned for the coming year - keep checking in on our calendar as Mark or I will be posting details there.
Of course you get a smart crowd and more than a fair share of R'n'B but there was a good proportion of Northern Soul, both popular and more obscure. Excellent venue and a good atmosphere and had a real good time.
Mods from all over the country had descended on Weston for this including a coach load from Leeds. I also met quite a few people including, as already mentioned Mark from Cardiff, also Mark White from Cardiff, excited about his forthcoming spot at the Dome, Ross, Michelle and Kim from Weston, Nigel from Bristol, Paul Hellier of the Exeter Soul Club and the Watchet crew plus others.
