BEVERLEI TRIUMPHS AT JAZZ CAFÉ -review by Peter Robinson of Dome
Beverlei Brown wrapped up the Dome Records 10th Anniversary week of live dates with a stunning debut live performance with an eight-piece band at Londons Jazz café on Friday (April 26th).
The Birmingham-born singer opened the sold-out show with an acappella rendition of gospel song "I Just Cant Give Up Now", then ran through 10 of the songs from her debut album "Next To You", one of the highlights being a duet with Chris Ballin on "Could Be You", as well as her version of Rufus "Aint Nobody" "by way of homage to my favourite artist Chaka Khan".
A heavy turn-out of female vocalists in the audience included Romina Johnson, Elisha Laverne, Shaila Prospere and US newcomer Leah McRae, daughter of George and Gwen McRae.
Earlier in the week New Yorkers Coolys Hot Box and lead vocalist Angela Johnson played two nights at the Jazz Café, as well as a sell-out date at King Georges Hall, Blackburn.
