Albrighton - Final Allnighter - 1 December 2001
Some brief highlights and a couple of playlists from the Modern Room at the excellent allnighter at Lea Manor, Albrighton - courtest of the (Essential) Modern Soul chatgroup. Congratulations to Lin & Tait for the legacy they leave behind and to the exciting events they have lined up for the future
HIGHLIGHTS by Roger Williams:
Seeing the SDS gang in full 'lightstick' effect - far and away
the UK's best 'rentacrowd'!!
Gavin Paige - off the wall, totally unpredictable and an
absolutely MAGNIFICENT DJ.
Chris Anderton's and Dave Ripolles' early doors sets - two hours
of wonderful music.
Steve G playing that stunning Bobby Montgomery track - chooooon
of the night for me.
The reaction to Pockets "Come & Go" and Herbie
Hancock "Stars" - uplifting to say the least.
The overall quality of the music on the night from every DJ I
heard -stunning.
Leaving the venue and looking up at the moon and seeing that big
blue ring around it - don't know what the technical term for it
is but apparently it only happens once every fifty years (and not
it wasn't the drugs!!) and it was an awesome sight. Steve G was
leaving at the same time as us and reckoned Soul Sam has seen a
couple, possibly three, in his lifetime !! :-)
Seeing Paul Sutty nearly as drunk as I was last time!!
BEST HIGHLIGHT:
Seeing Lin and Tait's lad being made to wear his Mum's pants!!
:-)
VERY VERY BEST AND FUNNIEST HIGHLIGHT:
Finding out I'd had my name removed from Lin's 'virtual flyer' by
some sad tool on his norman soultrouser list 'for fear of it
upsetting some of his members and keeping them away from the
venue'
